Diogu Powers Bakersfield to a 114-106 Victory

BAKERSFIELD, March 19, 2014 - Ike Diogu had game-highs of 30 points and 19 rebounds as the Bakersfield Jam (17-24) earned a 114-106 road win against the Texas Legends (21-24) on Wednesday night.

It was a close and competitive match from start to finish as there were a total of 25 lead changes and 17 ties in the game. Texas held a one-point lead at the half (60-59), but the Jam for a brief moment took full control of the game in the third quarter as they opened up a 12-point advantage at the 2:15 mark and went into the final frame ahead 91-83.

In the fourth, the Legends fought back and took a 97-94 lead with 6:47 left in the game. However, Bakersfield responded back with a strong finish as they ended the game on a 20-9 run.

Overall, Bakersfield shot better from the floor (42.4%-41.0%), and held the edge in second chance points (24-16) and fast break points (22-19). The Legends outrebounded the Jam (50-46) and had more assists (24-20).

Terrel Harris scored 21 points, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc, while Jerel McNeal added 18 points, eight assists, five rebounds and five steals. Derrick Byars posted 13 points and 10 rebounds and Dennis Horner contributed 13 points as well.

Texas was led by P.J. Hairston's 29 points. Damion James recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Mickey McConnell also scored 17 points to go along with six assists. Melvin Ely posted 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Jam will remain on the road and will take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers tomorrow, March 20 at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
