Jakaitis Named Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jeff Jakaitis of the Charlotte Checkers is the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 16-22.

The 25 year old was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .979, posting back-to-back wins against ECHL leader Florida to help the Checkers improve to 6-0-2 in their last eight games.

After making 50 saves in a 4-0 win on Tuesday, Jakaitis stopped 45 shots in a 5-2 win against the Everblades on Saturday in front of a team record crowd of 12,398.

The 5-foot-10 and 180-pound is 4-0-1 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.19 and a save percentage of .952 in his last five starts. He is 18-12-3 and is tied for second in the league with four shutouts while ranking fifth with 1,042 saves and 2,015 minutes.

Jakaitis played in the ECHL as a rookie in 2007-08 and was 12-14-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .909 in 36 regular season games for Columbia.

The Rochester, Minn. native played three seasons at Lake Superior State University where he was 35-48-14 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .923 in 100 games.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on March 1st against the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 5 P.M. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
