
Reading Takes 3-1 Win at Cincinnati Tuesday Night

CINCINNATI, Ohio - A seven minute power play for the Reading Royals in the first period led to two goals and it was too much for the Cincinnati Cyclones to overcome in a 3-1 loss on Tuesday night. The Cyclones had won eight of their previous nine games at U.S. Bank Arena entering the evening.
Reading opened up a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play, getting a seven minute power play in the first five minutes to cause the damage. Dan Rudiuela collected his 13th goal of the year at 7:20 with the man-advantage to grab the early lead. A Mac Faulkner score at 8:35, his 16th of the campaign, on the power play extended the lead to 2-0. The Cyclones got on the board at 15:46 when Matt Syroczynski snapped off a shot from the high slot for his 14th goal of the season. Ben Gordon got the helper to close the gap to 2-1 at the first intermission. The Royals won the shots battle, 11-8, in the term.
Reading pushed the lead to 3-1 when David Nimmo picked up his ninth score with 56.1 seconds remaining in the period. Cincinnati won the shots on goal battle, 12-, in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, but Cincinnati had four power play chances and was unable to capitalize. The shots again favored the Cyclones, 8-5, and for the game Cincinnati held the edge, 28-24.
Ryan Nie stopped 21 shots for Cincinnati and had his record drop to 12-3 with the Cyclones. It was his first loss at U.S. Bank Arena against seven victories. James Reimer took the victory, his ninth of the year, turning away 27 shots.
The Cyclones are now 30-20-5 on the season, while Reading is 18-34-4. The Cyclones host Reading on Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Tickets for each game are available for ten dollars each. Next Friday and Saturday, Elmira visits for the final time in the regular season.
