
Jakaitis Leads Stingrays Past Gladiators

North Charleston, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 33 saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (19-19-1-3) defeat the Gwinnett Gladiators (25-13-1-1) 3-1 Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Stingrays forward Robby Dee opened the scoring while on the power play at 11:35 of the opening period tipping a shot from defenseman Luka Vidmar past the glove of Gladiators goaltender Mike Lee (L, 17 saves on 20 shots). Forward Phil Mangan added the second assist. Forward Andrew Cherniwchan gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead 14 seconds later completing an odd-man rush with forward Matt Beca and Dee for his sixth goal of the season.
Beca made it 3-0 early in the second period slipping a shot between the legs of Lee from the right-wing circle at 3:05. Defenseman Scooter Vaughan and Cherniwchan picked up assists.
Gladiators forward Jason Clark spoiled the shutout with his first goal of the season at 9:36 of the third period. The Stingrays finished the contest 1-for-3 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-3.
