Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - January 13, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Ian Keserich and defenseman Steven Kaunisto. Both players have joined the team in Cincinnati and are expected to dress for tonight's game.
Keserich, 27, joins the Jackals after beginning this season with the Central Hockey League's Tulsa Oilers. A seventh round draft pick (#215 overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in 2004, Keserich has spent the last three full seasons in the CHL, five overall in his career, splitting time between Colorado, Mississippi, Wichita, and Tulsa. He has compiled a 65-69-9 record in that time. In 2010-11 he finished with a 22-10-2 record and his career-high 22 wins were sixth-most in the league. Keserich previously played in the ECHL in 2008-09 with the Johnstown Chiefs and went 13-14-2.
Kaunisto, 26, is a 6-2, 200-pound defenseman in his third season as a pro. He began this season with the Mississippi RiverKings of the Southern Professional Hockey League. He has spent the majority of his career in the CHL, including a 10 game stint with Jackals coach Dwight Mullins with the Allen Americans in 2011-12. In 155 pro games Kaunisto has produced 56 points (13G, 43A) and 37 penalty minutes. He has four games of ECHL experience (1G, 1A) with Reading in 2009-10 after finishing his collegiate career at Lake Superior State University.
