Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, OH) - Defenseman Erik Spady (spay-dee) and Forward Nino Musitelli (Knee-no, MUHS-ih-tell-ee) have agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye. Forward Tyler Brenner has been assigned to Toledo by the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Defenseman Tyler Miller has been released by the Walleye, while defenseman Dean Moore was dealt to the Florida Everblades in exchange for future considerations.
Musitelli hails from Macomb, Michigan and started this season with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey league. The 5'8", 180 pound forward appeared in 20 games this year with the Americans, scoring twice with 3 assists. He did not skate last year due to family issues. Between the years of 2009-2011, Musitelli appeared in 121 CHL games with Allen scoring 57 goals with 76 assists. Musitelli started his professional career in the ECHL with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 2008-09, when he scored 19 goals with 31 assists in 62 games. Prior to turning professional, the 27 year old skated in Ohio at Miami of Ohio University. He appeared in 133 games with RedHawks, totaling 21 goals and 37 assists.
Spady joins the Walleye after starting his season with Fort Worth in the CHL. The Deroche, BC native appeared in 34 games this season with the Brahmas, collecting 3 goals, 14 assists and 59 penalty minutes. He also played in Texas last season skating in 66 games (5g, 9a, 114 pims). Prior to turning professional, the 23 year old spent four seasons with Northern Michigan in the CCHA. The 5'11", 205 pound defenseman dressed in 134 games over four seasons with the Wildcats posting 4 goals and 16 assists.
Brenner started this season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. In 32 games, The Linwood, Ontario native has picked up 21 points (8g, 13a). Last season, Brenner split his first professional season between Toronto (AHL) and Reading in the ECHL with a total of 4 goals and 8 assists. The 6'2", 207 pound forward played his college hockey at R.I.T., appearing 108 games while scoring 55 goals and 47 assists. He helped the Tigers reach the NCAA Frozen Four in 2010 and scored twice in a 6-2 win over New Hampshire in the East Regional. The 24 year old led R.I.T. in goal scoring his junior year with 26 goals, 10 of which came on the power play.
Miller appeared in the three games with Toledo in Florida and did not collect a point. Moore was also held without a point in his three games with Toledo down in Florida.
