Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - Dane Myers hit a pair of home runs and Devin Smeltzer tossed a seven-inning complete game to help the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp split their de facto doubleheader against the Nashville Sounds, 6-4 and 8-2, Sunday at 121 Financial Ballpark.

In the first inning of the series finale, Xavier Edwards singled and advanced to third courtesy of a double by C.J. Hinojosa. Dane Myers (2) blasted his first Triple-A home run to plate the first runs of the game off Nashville (31-31) starter Eric Lauer (0-1).

Tyler Naquin (4) homered to put Nashville on the board in the second inning.

In the bottom of the second frame, Santiago Chavez, Edwards and Hinojosa all singled to load the bases. A Myers single, coupled with a three-base error, cleared the bases, with Myers coming in as well on the little league home run to stretch the Jumbo Shrimp (27-35) lead to 7-1.

Myers (2) started the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run, his second of the game to pad Jacksonville's lead to 8-1.

In the top of the fifth, Naquin led off with his second home run of the game.

The Sounds continued to claw their way back in the top of the seventh. Patrick Dorian opened the frame with a single, followed up by a Payton Henry (3) home run to make it 8-4. Smeltzer was able to bear down and record the final two outs to preserve Jacksonville's second complete game in five days.

In the opener, Jesse Winker (2) homered in the opening frame to give the Nashville Sounds an early 1-0 advantage.

Jacksonville responded with a run of their own in the first. Jacob Amaya and Peyton Burdick singled and Dane Myers walked to load the bases for Jordan Groshans, who singled in the game-tying run.

In the opener of the de facto doubleheader, play resumed from Saturday's suspended game with the score tied at one in the bottom of the fourth. Nashville broke the tie in the fifth inning. Alex Jackson was plunked by a pitch and Cam Devanney doubled down the left field line to plate Jackson from first.

The Jumbo Shrimp quickly regained the lead in the home half of the fifth frame. Jake Mangum was hit by a pitch before Edwards (1) scorched a two-run homer, putting Jacksonville ahead 3-2.

Eddy Alvarez (5) hit a solo shot to level the game at three apiece in the sixth frame.

The Sounds put up a three-spot in the eighth inning against Jumbo Shrimp reliever Geoff Hartlieb (0-2). With Devanney at second as the ghost runner, Brian Navarretto singled to bring Devanney in. Alvarez then hit his second home run of the game to give Nashville a 6-3 advantage.

With Brian Miller starting at second in the bottom of the eighth, Myers hit a two-out single to score Miller against Nashville reliever Thyago Vieira (2-1) to cut into the Sounds' lead 6-4. With the winning run at the plate, Vieira was able to induce a fly out to keep Nashville in the win column.

Following an off day Monday, the Jumbo Shrimp open up a six-game series with the Memphis Redbirds with Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. first pitch from 121 Financial Ballpark. RHP Jeff Lindgren (5-2, 4.86 ERA) starts for Jacksonville. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN690 AM and www.ESPN690.com.

Tuesday's contest is a Two for Tuesday presented by Community First Credit Union. Tickets are 2-for-1 at the box office for Community First Credit Union member using their CFCU credit or debit card. It is also Military Appreciation Night, and the Jumbo Shrimp are happy to provide free tickets to all active, retired, veterans and former military members and their dependents to Tuesday's game.
