Iowa Cubs News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The Iowa Cubs (34-27) dropped the series finale to the St. Paul Saints (36-26) by a score of 8-5, Sunday at CHS Field.
An RBI ground out from rehabber Joey Gallo gave St. Paul a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the only run the Saints would get against starter Chris Clarke. Clarke gave up just two hits while striking out four over his 3.0 innings.
Iowa got the run back in the fourth on a solo home run from Jake Slaughter to tie the game. It would stay 1-1 through five innings until Iowa took their first lead of the game.
They did so on an RBI single from Sergio Alcántara, starting a scoring streak in the game. The Saints tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from Jair Camargo, but Slaughter gave Iowa the lead right back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
With a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, Rowan Wick allowed a walk and a two-run home run to Gallo, giving the Saints back the lead, at 4-3. St. Paul blew it open from there, getting four runs in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Andrew Stevenson, a bases loaded hit by pitch and a two-run single from Andrew Bechtold.
David Bote hit a two-run blast in the top of the ninth to make it an 8-5 game, but that is all Iowa would score as they dropped the finale and the series.
POSTGAME NOTES:
Hunter Bigge made his Triple-A debut in the fourth inning today, throwing a scoreless inning with a walk and two strikeouts.
