Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, picked up one win in three tries last week in a trio of divisional contests. After a home split with Cincinnati, the Jackals took to the road for only the second time this year Sunday, losing in Reading 5-3.

The Jackals snapped a two-game losing streak in taking a 5-2 decision in their first ever meeting with the Cyclones. D JOE GRIMALDI sparked the win when he netted his first professional goal with 2.5 seconds left in the opening period to put the Jackals ahead to stay at 2-1. C KEVIN ULANSKI scored a second period power play goal to end the club's drought on the man-up at 0-for 19 and it held up as the game-winner. D JON LANDRY and RW JIM McKENZIE picked up assists in the game for their first professional points.

The Cyclones rebounded to take this First Arena rematch with relative easy. RW JIM McKENZIE scored the Jackals' only goal for his first professional strike and a two-game point streak (1+1) as the club played a third consecutive contest with 15 skaters due to injuries and call-ups.

The teams combined for a five-goal outburst in the final 8:27 of the middle period that ultimately decided the first ever game between the teams. LW PIERRE-LUC FAUBERT gave the visitors their only lead at 11:33 of the second with his third goal of the year to make it 2-1. The Royals countered with goals 1:43 apart to pull ahead 3-2 before RW BOBBY ROBINS deflected home a power play goal to tie the game with 2:57 left in the period. But the Reading power play came back for the winning marker with just 48 seconds to go in the frame for a 4-3 lead. LW SHAWN WELLER, reassigned by Ottawa (NHL) to Elmira earlier in the day, picked up his first point as a pro when he assisted on the ROBINS goal.

Elmira welcomes in the Bombers for the first of ten North Division encounters (5 home/5 away). Having played the fewest games of any club in the division, the Bombers come to town at 3-2-0-0, good for six points and sixth place. After dropping their first two games of the season, Dayton swept three at home last weekend, highlighted by LW CHANSE FITZPATRICK's five-goal demolition of Trenton in a 5-1 victory Saturday. FITZPATRICK, briefly with Elmira in 2006-07, added another goal in Sunday's come-from-behind 3-2 win over Cincinnati. His six goals lead the club while F MATT BEAUDOIN leads the club in scoring with 10 points (3+7). BEAUDOIN and YANNICK TIFU share the club lead with seven assists each.
