
Checkers celebrate American Airlines Veterans night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers are happy to announce that during the night of Saturday, Nov. 10 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves, the team will recognize the men and women of the United States Armed Forces with the second annual Veterans Night present by American Airlines.
During the event, Gold and Blue Star mothers will be hosted by Autotrader.com and will be honored during a special on-ice ceremony. Also, an induction ceremony will take place for new recruits for all branches of the military led by MG (R) Charles Swannack and MG (R) Jack Holbein. A special operations demo team will display different pieces of equipment used by the military in the concourse area
Some of the foundations that will benefit from Veterans Night include: Military Families Lifestyle Charitable Foundation, Coalition Salute to America's Heroes and Charlotte USO.
During the summer, the team sent Checkers jerseys overseas which were signed by the troops in Iraq. These jerseys will be auctioned online starting Nov. 12 at www.gocheckers.com. Also, the team will be donning special patriotic-style jerseys presented by SunCom Wireless during the game which will be auctioned off after the contest. Proceeds will go to benefit Junior Achievement of the Central Carolinas.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Nov. 7 against the South Carolina. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
