Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Reggie Abercrombie homered and tripled, but the effort fell short of an offensive explosion by New Orleans as the Zephyrs (12-8) downed the Albuquerque Isotopes (8-11) 17-8 in the series finale Tuesday afternoon at Isotopes Park.

New Orleans produced 23 hits, scoring in seven of nine innings-including a six-run burst in the sixth. Albuquerque managed eight runs and 11 hits, but 10 Zephyr runs over the sixth and seventh innings sunk the 'Topes.

Roy Corcoran (0-1), the third of seven Isotopes pitchers to appear, took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits over an inning of work. Corcoran entered with the Isotopes down 6-5 in the fifth. By the end of the sixth, New Orleans led by six. After seven, the 'Topes deficit grew to 10.

Starter Ricardo Rodriguez allowed three runs on six hits over 2.2 frames before being ejected after hitting Ricky Ledee with a pitch. After Corcoran's exit, four Isotopes relievers would allow nine runs on 11 hits.

New Orleans starter Chan Ho Park (3-1) surrendered six runs on eight hits with three walks and seven Ks over five frames to earn the win.

After the Z's scored a run in the first, the 'Topes answered with a run of their own, tying the score at 1-1. New Orleans scored twice in the third inning, but again the Isotopes had an answer, using a two-run blast by Abercrombie to tie the score at 3-3. Down a run in the fifth, Valentino Pascucci knotted the score at 6-6 with a solo home run, his fourth of the season.

That 6-6 deadlock would soon turn in New Orleans' favor, though. A six-run sixth followed by a four-run seventh were all the damage the Z's would need to salvage the series split.

Albuquerque shortstop Robert Andino had a successful day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one driven in. Abercrombie had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI.

For New Orleans, Andy Tracy recorded five hits, four runs scored and three RBI. Two Zephyrs-Ruben Gotay and Ledee-collected four this apiece.

Albuquerque now takes a one-day respite before heading out for a season-long 12-game road trip. The first stop is Round Rock, where lefty Chris George (1-1, 4.87) takes on Express southpaw Philip Barzilla (2-1, 6.43) in the opener on Thursday. First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 6:05 PM.

The Isotopes return home on May 8 to take on Portland and Tacoma. Several giveaways, Orbit's Birthday Bash, a visit by Hall-of-Famer Johnny Bench and much more are slated for the eight-day homestand. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800.
