New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA - The New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday by a score of 17-8, and the Zephyrs set a franchise record for team hits in a game with 23.

10 different Zephyrs players recorded at least one hit in the contest, including five hits by first baseman Andy Tracy, four by second baseman Ruben Gotay and four by outfielder Ricky Ledee, who also hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. Ledee's seven RBI are the most for a Zephyrs hitter since Jason Lane in 2002.

The Zephyrs broke their previous record of 22 hits in a game - set twice in 2006, including the team's 24-inning game against the Nashville Sounds.

The game was close through five innings, with the Isotopes putting up six runs to tie the Zephyrs. But a breakthrough sixth and seventh inning in which the Zephyrs scored a total of 10 runs broke the game open. The Zephyrs would allow only two more runs by Albuquerque, while tacking on an additional run in the ninth inning to close the game.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Chan Ho Park (3-1) picks up the win after allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings of play. Park also contributed to the record-breaking offensive effort by going 2-3 at the plate.

Tracy, who went 5-6 in the game with three RBI, came up one hit short of the individual record of six hits in a game set by outfielder Mike Vento in the 24-inning game against Nashville in 2006.

Former Zephyrs pitcher Roy Corcoran (0-1) takes the loss for Albuquerque. Corcoran gave up four runs on four hits in one inning of relief.

With the Zephyrs (12-8) splitting the road series against the Isotopes 2-2, the team will get on off day on Wednesday before traveling to Oklahoma City to face the Oklahoma RedHawks, who at 9-9 trail the Zephyrs by two games in the division. That series begins Thursday at 7:05 PM CT.
