Iowa Cubs News Release

METAIRIE, LA - The Iowa Cubs (30-21) put up a four-spot in the ninth inning to win a 14-10 battle over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (28-23), Sunday at Shrine on Airline.

It was a back-and-forth game as the two teams locked into a tie three separate times. Despite New Orleans' persistence, Iowa never trailed after a two-RBI double from Robel Garcia in the first.

The Baby Cakes knotted the game 2-2 after two but a pair of two-run homers from Jim Adduci and Johnny Field put the I-Cubs ahead. Adduci followed with an RBI single in the fourth as Iowa worked a 7-2 edge.

New Orleans came back in a big way as it batted around in the fourth and put up a five-run frame to even the score 7-7. Gabriel Guerrero, Matt Snyder and Yadiel Rivera collected RBI in the inning.

Iowa retook the lead for the third time on a two-run blast from Taylor Davis in the seventh - the third long ball for the I-Cubs in the game. With two outs, Jacob Hannemann doubled and Ian Happ brought him in with a single to push the I-Cubs to a 10-7 edge.

The Baby Cakes didn't go easily as they rallied for one run in the seventh and a pair in the eighth to tie the game once again, but the I-Cubs bats weren't done.

Davis sparked the ninth-inning effort with a leadoff double and the pinch runner, Wynton Bernard, came around to score the go-ahead run later in the frame on a Hannemann single. Iowa loaded the bags and Adduci cashed in with a bases-clearing double to put the game out of reach for New Orleans.

Postgame Notes:

- Taylor Davis (3-4), Ian Happ (3-4) and Jim Adduci (3-6) all recorded three-hit games.

- Rowan Wick spun a career-high 3.1 innings (3H, ER, 2BB, 3K, HR).

- 15 hits tied a season high for Iowa.

- Adduci's six RBI are a season high for an I-Cub in a game.

Iowa and New Orleans meet at Shrine on Airline again tomorrow at 1 p.m. Follow the action on AM 940, TuneIn Radio or www.iowacubs.com.
