Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Salt Lake Bees 7-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Greg Mahle turned in a solid start going five innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits while fanning four batters. The southpaw left six Rainiers stranded, which included escaping a bases loaded situation in the top of the second. After Tacoma scored one run in the first inning, Taylor Ward hit a solo home run and Jarrett Parker produced a RBI-single to give the Bees a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fifth, Jarrett Parker and Wilfredo Tovar each collected an RBI-single with bases loaded and extended Salt Lake's lead to 4-1.

Two-way player Kaleb Cowart (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his second appearance this season as he relieved Mahle in the sixth and surrendered five earned runs on six hits in two-thirds innings of work. John Curtiss finished the sixth inning and allowed one run to cross the plate in two and two-thirds innings pitched. Jake Jewell pitched a scoreless ninth frame, but Salt Lake struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities leaving 13 runners stranded on base during the game. Justin Bour lead the Bees offense finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and runs scored.

The Bees host the Rainiers for two more games with Memorial Day fireworks scheduled to follow the game on Monday night and a Tuesday matinee with first pitch scheduled at 12:05.
