TOLEDO, OH - The Iowa Cubs (72-55) dropped their Friday night contest against the Toledo Mud Hens (61-68) from Fifth Third Field by a score of 8-4.

The I-Cubs were the first to strike in this one to gain an early 1-0 lead. Following a double from Jared Young, P.J. Higgins brought him in with a single through the left side in the top of the first.

The lead was short lived for Iowa, however. In the bottom of the second Toledo hung five runs on the scoreboard to jump ahead. Donny Sands started the scoring with a sacrifice fly and Nick Solak added with an RBI single. After back-to-back walks, Colt Keith drove in a pair with a single back up the middle and the final run of the frame came off another RBI single this time by Tyler Nevin.

Iowa cut its deficit down to three in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Young, making it a 5-2 ballgame. Toledo then responded in the fifth with Solak picking up his second RBI of the night on a groundout.

In the sixth, Luis Vazquez brought the I-Cubs within two as he launched a two-run home run over the left field wall. Once again though, the Mud Hens answered with a solo homer from Justyn-Henry Malloy putting the score at 7-4.

Toledo tacked on another run in the seventh off a sacrifice fly from Solak and that proved to be the final run of the ballgame.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Nick Neidert suffered his shortest start of the season and finished with a final line of 1.2 innings, three hits, five runs, four walks, and no strikeouts.

- Blake Whitney made his season debut for the I-Cubs tonight and spun 1.2 innings with two runs allowed off two hits to go along with three walks and a strikeout.

- In his first game back from injury with Iowa, Brennen Davis went 0-for-3 with a run scored and three strikeouts at the plate.
