Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (68-48) secured a series split with a 7-5 victory over the Louisville Bats (62-55), Saturday at Principal Park.
For the second consecutive night, Iowa used a four-run inning to jump in front of Louisville. Tonight, it came in the second inning and was highlighted by singles from Luis Vazquez and Matt Mervis.
The Bats broke into the run column in the third inning on an RBI single from Matt Reynolds. An RBI ground out from Michael Siani in the fifth inning made it 4-2, the only two runs Caleb Kilian would allow.
In his first start back with Iowa since being optioned from Chicago, Kilian spun 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out three. Iowa grew their lead back to four with back-to-back doubles in the sixth from Pete Crow-Armstrong and Yonathan Perlaza.
Iowa scored again in the eighth on a single from Perlaza, growing their lead to 7-2. Siani brought Louisville within three with a two-run home run in the ninth and they weren't done there.
Four walks later, the Bats scored another run, but Tyler Duffey would eventually record the final out to secure a 7-5 win.
