Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Bisons pitching staff dazzled in the Herd's 7-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings on Saturday night at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo. The Bisons hosted Hockey Night at the ballpark, where they honored the life of the Buffalo Sabres legendary play-by-play announcer, Rick Jeanneret.
The Bisons got out to a hot and fast start in the bottom of the first as Ernie Clement gave the Herd a 1-0 lead with his double to left field that allowed Rafael Lantigua to round home and score.
The Herd kept the early momentum in their favor as Addison Barger singled on a line drive to right field and Clement turned on his wheels to score from second base, 2-0.
After a quiet five innings for both team's offenses, Lantigua woke the bats up in a big way in the bottom of the seventh inning as he hit a no-doubt two-run home run over the left field wall, bringing in Cameron Eden who was in as a pinch runner and making it a 4-0 ballgame in the Herd's favor.
The scoring didn't stop there this inning for Buffalo as Orelvis Martinez made it a 5-0 game when he hit a long sacrifice fly to deep center field, allowing Spencer Horwitz to easily score from third base. Tanner Morris kept the scoring going in the bottom of the seventh when he singled on a fly ball to right field, scoring Barger to make it 6-0.
The Red Wings got themselves on the scoresheet in the top of the eighth inning when Travis Blankenhorn reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring Cody Wilson and making it a 6-1 game. There was no RBI credited on this play as there was a throwing error, leading to the run being scored. This run was also unearned.
Buffalo regained their six-run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning as Tyler Heineman hit a long sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Mason McCoy from third base, 7-1.
The Bisons pitching staff was extremely solid on Saturday night in downtown Buffalo. Pitchers Hayden Juenger, Junior Fernandez, Paul Fry, Zach Pop, and Matt Wisler combined for only four hits against the entire game. They collectively struck out eight batters and allowed only two walks against. Despite the run scored by Rochester, there were no earned runs allowed by any Bisons pitchers tonight.
The Bisons and Red Wings will wrap up this rain shortened five-game set on Sunday Afternoon at Sahlen Field with a 1:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. RHP Andrew Bash will be on the mound for the Bisons and RHP Tommy Romero gets the start for the Red Wings.
