Inferno Down Stingrays 4-2

South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mac Faulkner scored a hat trick to lead the Columbia Inferno past the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 in front of 5,019 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"That was disappointing," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "We continue to find ourselves having to come from behind. It's tough on everyone. I expect a better effort Sunday at Charlotte, but it won't be easy playing our third game in three days."
South Carolina (7-6-1, 15 points) hit stride on the power play. Chris Chaput went to the backhand at 8:43 in front of Todd Ford in the Columbia net, to register his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Cail MacLean and Jamie Fraser collected helpers.
Columbia (4-6-4, 12 points) tied the score at 1-1 at 16:26 of the first period. Faulkner scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year assisted by Lucas Drake and Steve McJannet.
Owen Fussey gave the Inferno a 2-1 lead by depositing a pass from Jeff Miles on an odd-man rush. The goal at 12:43 of the middle stanza was also assisted from Luke Fulghum.
Faulkner recorded his second of the night on a shot from the left circle at 1:42 of the third. Helpers went to McJannet and Derick Martin.
Cam McCaffrey cut the margin to one with a hard shot on the penalty kill, busting in alone and hammering a shot past Ford to make it 3-2 for Columbia. McCaffrey's fourth tally of the season was assisted by Fraser.
Stingrays pulled Parley in the dying minute for the extra attacker, but it backfired as Faulkner slid the puck down the ice for his third goal of the game and team-leading 10th marker of the year.
South Carolina converted on 1-of-5 power play chances, while Columbia went 0-for-4. Stingrays outshot the Inferno 39-29.
