Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Matt Macdonald's first goal as a Cincinnati Cyclones came at a crucial time Saturday night. In a 1-1 tie with 4:13 to play, the second-year defenseman slipped a shot between the legs of Wheeling goaltender Andy Franck to give the Cyclones a 2-1 win. The triumph ended a five-game losing streak for Cincinnati. The victory also snapped a nine-game losing (0-8-1) skid to the Nailers. The last Cyclones win over their opponents from West Virginia happened on January 10, 2004 in a 5-2 triumph.

Following a scoreless first period, Wheeling opened the scoring when Joe Jensen tallied his third goal of the season at 11:11 of the period. Jensen fired a puck from the slot that snuck just inside the left goalpost of Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris.

In the third period, the Cyclones tied the score at 1-1, when Cory Urquhart netted his team-high ninth goal of the season at 3:55. That set the table for Macdonald's heroics. It also marked the first time in five games this season that the Cyclones trailed after two periods and came back to win a game.

The Cyclones improve to 5-7-0 on the season, tied for fifth in the North Division standings of the ECHL. Cincinnati travels to Toledo for a 3:05pm game on Sunday.
