November 18, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (9-4-0) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Pensacola Ice Pilots (2-9-1) on Saturday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 5,690.
The game started off strong for the Everblades with defenseman Chris Dyment notching a power play goal just 3:08 into the contest. Jon Lehun and Mike Angelidis picked up assists on Dyment's second goal of the season. The game remained a 1-0 lead until the closing moments of the first period when Dallas Steward deflected a shot past Everblades net-minder David Shantz with 1:31 remaining in the period, sending the teams to the locker rooms tied at one.
Early in the second period the Ice Pilots scored the eventual game-winner when Mike Wirll wove his way through the Everblades defense and managed to slip a shot past Shantz at 3:03 to open the 2-1 lead. The Everblades had their chances in the third period to tie the game, out shooting Pensacola 15-3 and holding four power plays but couldn't find a way to get the puck past Ice Pilots goaltender Michael Mole, including a shot by Derek Damon from the left circle that Mole gloved to keep out of the net with one second remaining in the game.
Shantz suffered the loss for the Everblades allowing just the two goals on 30 shots, but saw his record fall to 5-2-0. Mole picked up his second win of the season to five losses after making 35 saves on the night.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-for-9, while the Ice Pilots finished off the game 0-for-5.
With the win, the Ice Pilots snapped Florida's 15-game winning streak over Pensacola dating back to the end of the 2004-05 season.
The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, return to the ice on Wednesday, November 22 when they travel to Columbia, SC to take on the Inferno at 7:05 p.m. from the Carolina Coliseum.
