Utah Grizzlies News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads (48-18-2-4) won a wild one and broke open a 4-3 game in the final four minutes and won 7-4 over Utah (35-27-5-3) Wednesday night in Boise.
The Grizzlies hold a three-point lead on Alaska with two games to play, depending on the result of Wednesday's game between Alaska and Ontario which was scoreless after one period at press time in Anchorage. If Utah's clinches a playoff spot in Colorado over the weekend, they will open the playoffs against the Steelheads next week. Utah's magic number stays at four points.
Idaho led 1-0 after one period on a power-play goal and made it 3-0 with two early goals in the second period before Utah started a series of comebacks.
Cam Wojtala (7) hacked in a puck to start the Grizzlies scoring with 6:05 left in the second period before Johnnie Searfoss (4) picked up a turnover and walked in to make it 3-2 with 1:20 left in the frame. Idaho countered 25 seconds later to make it 4-2.
The Grizzlies made it 4-3 with 11:24 left in the third period on a goal by H.T.Lenz (11), before Idaho added three late including an empty-netter.
Eric Levine entered to replace Igor Bobkov after Idaho made it 3-0.
The Grizzlies wrap up the regular season Friday and Saturday in Colorado. Face-off both nights is at 7 p.m.
