Familiar Face Back in Tulsa, Erickson Claimed off Waivers

Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers have welcomed back a familiar face to the blue line.
Veteran defenseman Sean Erickson, who played for the Oilers from 2009-2013, was claimed off waivers on Thursday and is expected to make his return to the Tulsa lineup on Friday night when the Oilers face off against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m.
"We feel extremely fortunate to have Sean back in Tulsa," said Oilers Head Coach, Bruce Ramsay. "I've known Sean for a long time and when he played for me a few years back, I could always count on him to give incredible effort and consistently contribute offensively. He can come in immediately and provide added leadership to our young players and there's no doubt in my mind that Sean makes our team better as we head into the playoffs. Any team in our league would be lucky to have a player of Sean's caliber."
Erickson, 31, arrives in Tulsa after competing against the Oilers this season as a member of the Rapid City Rush. In 67 games with Rapid City, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native posted 29 points (3 goals, 26 assists) and 46 penalty minutes. Last season, Erickson appeared in 59 games for the Rush and posted the best numbers of his career. He set career-highs in assists (32) and points (46) and ranked third among all Central Hockey League defensemen in scoring.
After a productive college career at the University of Connecticut, Erickson landed in Tulsa in 2009 for his first full pro season. Over the next four years he suited up for the Oilers in 245 games and recorded a total of 39 goals, 89 assists, and 213 penalty minutes. Erickson, who was part of the Tulsa squad that advanced to the second round of the CHL playoffs in 2011, ranks ninth on the Oilers' list of all-time games played and led the Oilers in defensive scoring during the 2012-13 campaign.
Erickson, 6-foot-0, 180-pounds, joins Nathan Lutz, Dave Pszenyczny, and Jon Booras as a veteran on the Tulsa roster.
Tulsa clinched a playoff berth on Wednesday night with a 4-2 win in Wichita and will try to climb higher in the final Central Division standings as they close the season with another tilt against the Thunder on Friday and a visit to Quad City on Saturday.
Tulsa Oilers' playoff tickets are now on sale and can be purchased for as low as $18 by calling 918-632-7825.
