Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads (27-17-2-3) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (24-19-3-5) 3-2 Monday afternoon at Maverik Center before a season-high crowd of 9,862 fans to welcome the Grizzlies home after a nine-game road trip.
Utah outshot Idaho 35-25 and drew 9 of the game's 15 power-plays, but were unable to keep their home magic alive as their all-time team-high eleven-game home unbeaten streak came to an end.
The loss is Utah's first in regulation at Maverik Center since December 7, spanning 71 days. The loss gives them their first two-game losing streak since before Christmas.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 7:04 into the period as Utah native D.J. Jelitto slammed in his eighth goal of the year and his fifth against Idaho as the Grizzlies kept the pressure in the Steelheads zone and scored three seconds after their first power-play expired. Danick Paquette and Michael Pelech picked up assists.
The Utah lead lasted for 28 minutes and 31 seconds before Idaho scored off of a neutral zone face-off to tie the game.
The Grizzlies closed the second period with three-straight power-plays, including over a minute in four-on-three and five-on-three action, but were unable to take the lead.
Idaho took a 2-1 lead 1:59 into the third period, before Utah countered 59 seconds later with a Martin Lee power-play goal to quickly tie the game.
The Steelheads made it 3-2 at about the halfway point, and that lead would not be surrendered as Utah had one last chance on the power-play.
