CINCINNATI, Ohio - Ray Kaunisto's early third period goal proved to be the game-winner as the Kalamazoo Wings (29-17-1-3) snuck past the Cincinnati Cyclones (28-19-1-1) by a 4-3 final score in front of 2,222 at U.S. Bank Arena on Monday afternoon. Trevor Lewis potted two goals for Cincinnati in the defeat.

Cincinnati's power play helped give the home team a 1-0 lead midway through the opening stanza. While Ryan Del Monte served a crosschecking minor, Trevor Lewis tipped home a point blast from Cyclones newcomer Mike Dalhuisen at 12:02. And thanks to four saves at the other end of the ice by goaltender Scott Darling (L, 17 saves, 3-1-0), the Cyclones carried the one-goal edge into the first intermission.

The Wings pulled even just 2:08 into the middle stanza, as Yannick Veilleux snapped home his 10th goal of the season. Cincinnati would regain the cushion at 6:39 when Lewis slid home his second of the night through the legs of Joel Martin (W, 27 saves, 12-7-0-3). Unfortunately, Kalamazoo would get two more tallies before the period ended. At 10:13, Veilleux fired in his second of the night during a Wings power play. Then, at 17:28, Justin Taylor capitalized on a Cincinnati turnover and laid in his 11th goal of the year to give his team a 3-2 advantage after 40 minutes of play.

Just 26 seconds into the final frame, Brian Nugent turned the tables back for Cincinnati as he sniped in his seventh goal of the season to knot the score at two. Just a couple of minutes later, though, a bouncing puck found its way to Ray Kaunisto who banked in the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning strike at the 2:36 mark. The Cyclones pulled Darling in the late stages in hopes of mounting a comeback with the extra skater, but they fell short as the Wings prevailed by the 4-3 final score.

The Cyclones will now embark on a four-game road trip beginning this Wednesday against the Evansville IceMen.
