Alaska Aces News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Laurent Brossoit made 27 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and the Bakersfield Condors blanked the Alaska Aces (32-14-3, 67 points), 3-0 before 3,460 fans at Rabobank Arena on Monday.

The Aces, facing their former goaltender (swapped with Olivier Roy in a trade earlier this season between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers) for the first time, suffered their first set of back-to-back losses since December 4. Gerald Coleman, returning from a rare off-day on Sunday, made 16 saves.

The defeat also ended the Aces 10-game winning streak over Bakersfield, and handed the Aces a loss at Bakersfield for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

The two teams played through a scoreless tie in the first period, but the Aces outshot Bakersfield 9-6 while missing on a pair of high-grade scoring chances. Jordan Morrison slammed a slapshot off the post, following a defensive zone giveaway by Bakersfield, and Peter Sivak's open-net bid with time expiring was denied by a desperate dive in the crease by the Bakersfield defense.

Tyler Mosienko also threatened in the second period on a mid-air deflection at the net, which Brossoit smothered with his blocker side.

The Aces fell victim to a power play goal late in the second period after taking their third penalty in the middle frame. Eric Burgdoerfer blasted his seventh goal of the season through traffic after Garry Steffes drew the face-off win to him at the blueline with 1:16 left.

Steffes then finished a Spencer Bennett centering bid from behind the net, after a giveaway by the Aces defense, at 7:44 of the third period for a 2-0 edge.

Burgdoerfer tallied his second goal of the day for the 3-0 lead with 5:07 left in regulation, counter-attacking with a wrister from the right circle.

NOTES: The Aces scratched James Martin, Corey Syvret, Tim Coffman, Ross Ring-Jarvi, Jordan Kremyr, Eli Zuck, Brendan Connolly and David Eddy ... the Aces were shut out for the first time since Dec. 31 in a 3-0 defeat to Ontario ... the Aces outshot Bakersfield, 27-19 ... Brad Richard and Mosienko led the Aces with five shots apiece in the game.

A three game homestand for the Aces opens Wednesday at Sullivan Arena in a 7:15 p.m. (GCI/KFQD) game against the Ontario Reign. Season ticket and sponsorship packages are currently available through the Aces office at 15th & Gambell.
