Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA -- The Louisiana IceGators had a tougher start than they expected against the Texas Wildcatters tonight at the Cajundome. After going down 2-0 in the first period, the Gators fought back with two goals in the second and two goals in the third to fly past the Catters, 5-3.
At the 13:44 mark of a grinding first period, the Catters put up the first two goals of the game. The first puck that beat Derek Gustafson was fired through traffic from the blueline. The Catters were just off the power play when Steve Passmore blasted the shot into the net. Just a minute later, Gustafson came out of the crease for a poke-check and missed. He fell into the crease and Martin Masa popped the puck over him for the second Catter tally of the night.
All three goals in the second period came on the power play. Martin Masa tallied his second of the night when a wide shot bounced off the dasher board and back out in front of Gustafson. Ed McGrane put the Gators on the board with a close shot from the side of the crease. Bobby Brown blasted the puck from the slot and hit Parley in the logo. The puck bounced out and McGrane collected it and stuck it short-side over the line.
Brown collected a goal of his own, on the power play, at 12:41 of the second when he redirected a long shot from Ed McGrane, who was standing at the blue line. The shot was headed straight toward a Catter defenseman when Brown got his stick on it. He popped it up and over the defenseman's stick and the puck then seemed to float over Parley's shoulder.
The IceGators lit the lamp three times in the third period, all at even-strength. Semir Ben-Amor collected his fourth goal of the year when a shot from Brian Herbert ricocheted off Parley, the goalpost, a Wildcatter defenseman and Armands Berzins before Ben-Amor collected it and shot it near side into the net.
Bobby Brown earned his second goal of the evening less than a minute later on a rebound from Maxime Fortunus. Ed McGrane tallied his second assist of the evening on Brown's goal. Armands Berzins scored his ninth goal of the season, with help from Brian Herbert, with his second assist on the night and 11th of the season. Chris Taliercio had the second assist on final goal.
The IceGators have two days off before they rematch with the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Friday, February 6 at 7:05 pm. This game is one of the rescheduled games this season. Season ticket holders may use their tickets from Saturday, January 31 for this Friday. The Gators will travel to Mississippi on Saturday and be back on home ice for a tilt with the Florence Pride on Sunday, February 8 at 4:05 pm.
