NASCAR Night Returns

Wheeling, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that they will host NASCAR Night on February 20th, 2004 at WesBanco Arena presented by Gary's Body Shop, when the Nailers play host to the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30pm.

NASCAR Night 2004 will feature the famous #8 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Budweiser Chevrolet car. The event will take place Friday, February 20, 2004. Pre-game visitation and pictures of the #8 Budweiser car will be permitted under the tent in the back lot of WesBanco Arena beginning at 6:00pm.

The Wheeling Nailers will host the Cincinnati Cyclones that same evening with the face-off scheduled for 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale now at the WesBanco Arena Box Office or through the Nailers office at 1315 Main Street. Please call (304) 234-4625 for more information or to buy tickets.

J.C. RUID NAMED ECHL PLUS PERFORMER OF THE MONTH Press Release - February 3rd 2004

WHEELING, WV – Wheeling Nailers Captain J.C. Ruid was named the C&T Hockey Products Plus Performer of the Month for January. Ruid finished the month with a league high +16.

Ruid recorded a +/- rating of even or higher in 13 of the Nailers 14 games in January. He had a +4 rating in two games during the month and had a +3 rating in another game. Ruid took his rating from a +13 to a +29, second best in the ECHL.

Ruid also had eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in January, helping the Nailers go 12-2-0 for the month. On the season he has 48 points on 17 goals and 31 assists, tied for 13th in the ECHL in scoring. Ruid also ended the month of January with a four game point scoring streak.

The Nailers return home to WesBanco Arena on Friday, February 20 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30p.m. It will be Nailers Team Poster Night with the first 2,000 fans receiving a Nailers team poster courtesy of Printech, Z Photo and WTOV-9. Gary's Body Shop will sponsor the #8 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Chevrolet for NASCAR Night on the 20th. It will also be the sixth of eight Season Ticket Holder Ticket Redemption Night, with all Nailers season ticket holders able to redeem unused tickets to previous Nailers home games for the game on the 20th.

BLAIS RETURNS TO WHEELING, FATA CALLED UP TO AHL Press Release - February 3rd 2004

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that Ben Blais has returned to the team from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In a related transaction, defenseman Drew Fata was recalled by the Penguins.

Blais has been called up by the Penguins twice this season, from January 9-11 and January 30-31. He has appeared in four games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has two assists and two penalty minutes while playing at a+2. Blais has played 39 games for the Nailers this season and has eight points on two goals and six assists. He also has 71 penalty minutes with Wheeling while playing at a +2.

Fata began the season with the Nailers and played in the first four games before being called up to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He returned to Wheeling on December 5 and has appeared in 17 games since being reassigned. Fata is returning to the AHL where he has played eight games this season and has one goal and two penalty minutes. Fata has played 21 games for the Nailers this season and has 11 points on four goals and seven assists. He also has 55 penalty minutes and is playing at a +6.
