Everblades Rally Falls Short 5-3

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (23-16-9) lost to the Gwinnett Gladiators (24-16-4) 5-3 in front of of 6,744 at TECO Arena Tuesday morning. The crowd consisted of mostly elementary and middle school students around the area who attended the game as part of the first ever Everblades education game.

The Everblades got on the scoreboard first when Brian McCullough found Keith Anderson for his 15th goal of the season. The lead wouldn't even last a minute when Rick Emmett would fire a rebound over Florida netminder Robb Zepp 54 seconds later to tie the game at one.

In the second period there would be no scoring for the first 15 minutes but then Gwinnett tallied three goals in less than two minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Goal scorers for the Gladiators were Kevin Doell (1 goal, 2 assists), Phillip Lewandowski, and Cam Brown. Florida fired a season low two shots on in the period.

Gwinnett would increase it's lead to 5-1 on a shorthanded goal by Kris Goodjohn. Florida did it's best to get back in the game when Brandon Coalter buried a shot from the slot for 3rd goal of the season. In the dying moments Chad LaRose would pull Florida to within 5-3 when his backhander slid it's way past Gwinnett netminder Trevor Prior but Gwinnett would hold on for the victory.

Zepp stopped 33 of 38 shots. Prior stopped 21 of 24 shots. Florida finished 0 for 4 on the power play while Gwinnett went 0 for 4.

Florida begins a four game road trip this Friday, February 6th when they take on Columbia Inferno who lead Florida by four points for first place in the Southern Division. Game time is 7:30. The Everblades will then take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday and Sunday, February 7th and 8th before wrapping up the trip in Gwinnett on Tuesday, February 10th. Face off for that game is at 7:00 p.m.
