San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — Gulls goaltender Trevor Koenig has been named the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for Jan. 26 through Feb. 1.

Koenig went 3-0-0 with a 1.95 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in wins over the Las Vegas Wranglers, Idaho Steelheads and Bakersfield Condors last week, extending his personal winning streak to seven games. He's also spearheaded the Gulls overall to an ECHL season-high nine-game winning streak and a home winning streak of 11, also a league high for the season.

After making 33 saves in a 5-2 win at Las Vegas Jan. 27, Koenig stopped all six shooters in a shootout and made 31 saves in San Diego's 3-2 triumph over Idaho on Friday. The 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pounder from Edmonton, Alberta came right back Saturday with 28 saves in a 4-2 defeat against Bakersfield.

Koenig, who was the runner-up for the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for Jan. 19 – Jan. 25, has improved to 22-5-3 while lowering his GAA from 2.48 to 2.28 and raising his save percentage from .909 to .918. He leads the ECHL in shootout percentage (.853) and is tied for the league lead with four shootout wins. He ranks second with 22 wins overall and is tied for second with three shutouts. Koenig is seventh in the ECHL with his 2.28 GAA.

The two-time West Coast Hockey League Goaltender of the Year has won 20-or-more games in each of his four seasons with the Gulls, including a career-high 42 in 2001-02. Koenig has also backstopped San Diego to the WCHL Taylor Cup Championship twice (2001 and 2003).

Koenig is 121-44-14 with 17 shutouts, a 2.38 GAA and .916 save percentage in 185 career regular season games with the Gulls. He's the franchise's all-time leader in GAA, shutouts and save percentage. Koenig is second all-time in appearances, wins, minutes played and saves.
