ICE Select Matthew Savoie, Conor Geekie First and Second Overall Respectively in 2019 WHL Bantam Draft

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg ICE selected '04-born forwards Matthew Savoie and Conor Geekie first and second overall respectively in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft on Thursday. Winnipeg ICE Draft Coverage is presented by Canad Inns.

Savoie, from St. Albert, Alberta, suited up for the Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League during the 2018-19 campaign. In 31 regular season games, he recorded 31 goals and 40 assists for 71 points. Savoie also added three goals and nine assists for 12 points in five playoff games.

The five-foot-nine, 165-pound forward led his team in assists and points. Savoie finished fifth in league scoring.

Savoie received the Midget Prep Division MVP Award following the season.

Geekie, from Strathclair, Manitoba, scored 49 goals and added 37 assists for 86 points in 31 regular season games for the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Division 1 last season. The six-foot-one, 165-pound forward led the league in points.

Geekie also represented Team Manitoba at the 2019 Canada Winter Games where he collected one goal and five points in six tournament games.
