Ice Pilots can't get split fall to Everblades 5-1

The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered two goals 66 seconds apart early in the second period and dropped a 5-1 decision to the Florida Everblades on Saturday night in South Florida.

The Everblades improved their record to 29-14-2-0 for 60 points, while the Ice Pilots saw their record drop to 14-32-1-1 for 30 pts. The Ice Pilots raced out to a 1-0 lead when Rene Gauthier scored his first goal as a professional from John Hecimovic and Rob Rankin at the 7:01 mark. Gauthier put a sharp angle shot past goaltender Greg Kowalski who was solid all night long. However, the Everblades would score the next two, including one on the power play to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes. In the second period, the Everblades broke the game open with a pair of goals 66 seconds apart to make it 4-1. The first goal was shorthanded and the second one was even strength.

In the third period, the Ice Pilots surrendered a fifth goal to round out the scoring despite outshooting the Everblades 15-5 in the final 20 minutes and 32-29 overall. Notes; The Pensacola Ice Pilots return to action next weekend with three games in Beaumont, TX against the Wildcatters. The teams will play Friday night at 7:30 pm and then Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm at Ford Arena.

The Ice Pilots return home to The Hangar on Tuesday, Feb. 20 when they host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 pm. It's Two for Tuesday and when fans purchase one regular priced ticket, they receive a second one free.
