LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (15-8-3) won their third straight game by a score of 3-2, sweeping the Idaho Steelheads (14-11-1) in the two game series in front of 4,111 at the Long Beach Arena. The win extends the Ice Dogs unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) and moves them to within three points of the West Division leading Bakersfield Condors.

Idaho got the scoring started when Jonathon Zion scored on the power play 7:43 into the first period. But with 34 second remaining in the period, Yuri Moscevsky scored on a breakaway for his second goal of the season. Paul Dunphy and Paul Spadafora were each credited with an assist on the play as the period ended in a 1-1 tie.

At 2:37 of the second period, Evan Cheverie put the Ice Dogs on top, 2-1, with a power play goal assisted by Matt Shasby. Just 21 second later, Chris Kenady scored to make it 3-1 as Shasby and Cheverie both got assists. The score remained 3-1 Long Beach until Bobby Russell of the Steelheads scored in the final 5 seconds of the game. However, there wasn't enough time for them to drive the puck into the Ice Dogs zone after the face-off and the game ended, 3-2.

Chris Madden played in his third straight game, making 25 saves to improve his record to 11-1-0 on the season. Idaho goaltender, Frank Doyle, was credited with the loss, stopping 17 Long Beach shots. Both teams finished 1-7 on the power play.

The Ice Dogs will head out on a six game, eleven day road trip that begins with three games against the Salmon Kings in Victoria on New Years Eve. The Ice Dogs will return home on Wednesday, January 12th, to take on the Salmon Kings at 7 PM. For ticket information, call (562) ICE DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
