Atlanta Gladiators News Release

With his first shift during the opening period, Cam Brown tied Rod Taylor and the all time ECHL games played record at 678 career ECHL games played but it wasn't enough to help the Gladiators past Greenville on Thursday night in a 3-2 loss to the Grrrowl.

Rick Emmett opened the scoring on a slap shot from the blue line to record his 5th goal of the season for the Gladiators. Greenville netminder Mike Brodeur got a piece of Emmett's slapshot but not enough to make the save.

Brad Schell rolled the puck back to the defenseman to pick up an assist on the goal at 17:43 of the first period. Cam Brown also added an assist on the goal.

J.F. Ploured tied the game at 1-1 with a shorthanded tally at 12:04 of the second period. Ploured slipped past the Gladiators defense and beat netminder Sean Fields to the far post for the goal. Jason Metcalfe added an assist on the tally.

Later on the Gladiators power play that they gave up the shorthanded goal on, Adam Smyth slammed home a rebound on a 2-on-1 with Chris Durno for his 5th goal of the season giving Gwinnett a 2-1 lead at 12:39 of the second period.

Hanging out in the slot, Carl Mallette tied the game at 2-2 ripping a snapshot past Fields off a feed from Kevin Bergin at 13:13 of the second period. Martin St. Pierre also picked up an assist on the goal.

Greenville took the lead for good on Colin Pepperall's snapshot from the slot at 11:54 of the third period. Simon Ferguson picked up an assist on the tally as he set up Pepperall on the goal. Brock Radunske also picked up an assist on the game-winning goal.

Sean Fields made 21 saves for Gwinnett as the Gladiators fall to 16-8-4 on the season with the loss.
