Driver Sterling Marlin to Appear at Bombers Game
December 30, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH â The Dayton Bombers of the ECHL announced on Thursday a partnership with driver STERLING MARLIN, a member of the Chip Ganassi Racing Team. STERLING MARLIN will make an appearance when the Bombers host the Toledo Storm on January 14th. Marlin will host a pre-game corporate reception, sign autographs, and drop the ceremonial first puck.
Dayton Bombers Head Coach and General Manager DON MACADAM stated, "We are very excited to present a world-class driver like Sterling Marlin at one of our games." Bombers President COSTA PAPISTA added, "Hockey fans and racing fans will enjoy this special night."
Marlin is perhaps best known as only the third driver in Cup history to win back-to-back Daytona 500s, joining Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough as the only drivers to earn that distinction after winning in 1994 and 1995.
"There is no doubt that my fondest memory is winning that first Daytona 500," Sterling said.
He came closest to winning the NASCAR championship in 2002. Marlin scored victories at Las Vegas and Darlington and held the Cup points lead for 25 weeks. However, a late-season crash at Kansas ended his season. Still, he scored fourteen top-10 finishes and six top-10 qualifying efforts in 29 starts. He started from the Bud Pole twice -- at Pocono in June and Darlington in early September.
The Dayton Bombers will host Church Night on Friday, January 14th as the Toledo Storm invade the Nutter Center at 7:00 PM. There will be a post-game Christian concert featuring the band "Tidal Wave" from Tipp City, Ohio. For tickets and information call, the Bombers' office at 937-775-4747.
