Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers have announced that the organization will work with the American Red Cross to raise funds for the International Response Fund. The players and staff will begin the fundraising efforts by making personal donations to Center Ice Charities, earmarked for the Red Cross IRF for the Tsunami and earthquake disaster in Southeast Asia and Africa.
MIKE MORRISON (G) approached team officials on Thursday with the idea to donate funds to relief efforts and has rallied the players and staff to begin the initiative. For the next four home games (12/30, 1/1, 1/7 and 1/8), the Grrrowl are asking fans to assist with the fundraiser by making a monetary donation that will go the Center Ice Charities and immediately forwarded to the Red Cross International Response Fund.
"Mike came to us this morning with the question of how we could come together to assist the countless families that are devastated by this tragedy" stated Grrrowl General Manager Byron Rucker. "Our entire organization has a responsibility to assist our community in times like this, and we have the ability to rally our fans to assist in the massive job of recovery that is taking place in the Southeast Asia region. We know that our supporters will respond to this request for assistance, and we hope that we can make a difference. The American Red Cross has been the leader in disaster support throughout the world, so the partnership is something that is very important to us."
IWANNA has also agreed to partner with the Grrrowl efforts by donating all funds from the "IWANNA Chuck-A-Puck" at Saturday nights game to the fundraising project. Fans are asked to make donations at the games by coming to the Grrrowl Fan Accommodations Table (section 114), or by coming by the Grrrowl offices at the BI-LO Center (650 N. Academy Street). Questions can be addressed to Ryan Stewart at 250-4926.
The Grrrowl (14-11-3) have won four straight, and are tied for third place in the East Division of the American Conference. Greenville hosts Gwinnett tonight, and will play in Columbia on New Years' Eve at 2pm before returning home to face the South Stingrays on Saturday night (7:05pm). Mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information. All games are broadcast through TEAMLINE on www.grrrowl.com.
