Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, proud members of the ECHL, host a pair of games this weekend at Centennial Garden and both will feature a fundraiser for the disaster relief from the devastating Tsunamis that struck Asia earlier this week.

The Condors will be holding a jersey raffle and auction on Friday night for the first Condors Tux & Pucks Night, as they will don special tuxedo jerseys. Five of the jerseys will be raffled off and the rest will be auctioned to raise money for the United Way of Kern County. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the United Way South Asia Response Fund, which has been created to support the long-term recovery efforts and is administered by United Way International.

In addition, individuals and corporations interested in donating funds for long-term recovery can make an online contribution by visiting: http://www.unitedway.org/tsunamiresponse or by contacting the local United Way chapter at 324- 6427 for more information.

The Condors hold a charity jersey raffle during every home game featuring a Condors jersey from last season. Tickets cost just $1, and the recipient is a different charity every game. Saturday's game will benefit the American Red Cross, with the proceeds going directly to disaster relief.

The Red Cross is also accepting additional donations, log on to https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation -form.asp or call 1-800-HELP-NOW to make an individual contribution.

"The whole world is focused on the tragedy over there," said Condors Director of Community Relations and Development John Ayre. "Their loss is incalculable and whatever we can do to help I feel we should do. We welcome the chance to present the United Way and the Red Cross with a check to contribute on behalf of our fans."

Also on Saturday night, the Condors will welcome Marine Specialist Aaron Coates to drop the ceremonial first puck. Coates is a 24-year old Kern County resident who has returned from Iraq with a purple heart. He sustained 3rd and 4th degree burns over a significant portion of his body when the fuel truck he was driving was struck by a pair of rocket propelled grenades. He risked his life by steering the truck away from the rest of his convoy before it exploded and was given only a 10% chance of survival by doctors. He served in Kosovo as well.

Connor on the Coach's Show

The Condors Coach's Show can be heard live every week on KGEO AM 1230, and is held at the Holiday Inn Select on Thursday nights from 6:00- 7:00pm. This week's guests include Assistant Coach Paul Willett and Condors rookie sensation Connor James, fresh from the American Hockey League. The Condors Coach's Show is a great opportunity for Condors fans to get together, meet and greet with players and coaches and win great Condors prizes. There are drink specials and an appetizer buffet at the Holiday Inn Select specifically for those coming to the show.

This Friday and Saturday's games are the last chances to see the Condors before they hit the road for eight straight contests. All games home and away can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff. The Voice of the Condors, Kevin Bartl, handles the play-by-play.
