Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Ice Dogs (19-32-4) struggles continued Friday night in a 4-2 loss to South Carolina (30-20-3) in front of 3,464 at the Long Beach Arena. Ice Dog goalie Colin Zulianello (8-15-2) gave up three goals in the first period, with two coming on consecutive shots just 45 seconds apart, leading to an early deficit that proved to be too much to overcome.

Long Beach struck first in the opening frame, when Mark Gouett found Alex Kim in front of the net. Kim skated in and fooled Stingray goalie Kirk Daubenspeck (23-10-2) at 7:15. The Stingray attack began with Robin Gomez cleaning up a loose puck in front of the Ice Dog net at 10:22. Then Matt Desrosiers got into the act with a slapshot from the left faceoff circle that sailed between the legs of Zulianello at 11:07. Just before the end of the period, South Carolina right wing Marty Clapton passed to a wide open Mike Jickling who scored easily on the Ice Dog goalie at 19:31.

The first half of period two was a defensive stalemate, until Aaron Power broke away from the pack on an Ice Dog line change to put one in the top shelf of Zulianello's net at 12:43. The goal prompted Long Beach head coach Kevin Kaminski to pull Zulianello in favor of rookie goalie T.J. Aceti.

In the third period, the Ice Dogs were unable to convert on two consecutive power plays resulting from a Stingray double-minor penalty, but cashed in when forward Nolan Graham tickled the twine on a power-play-slapshot at 12:53. The Ice Dog faithful briefly witnessed three on three action after a flurry of fights and penalties from both teams at 16:05. Long Beach hosts the Fresno Falcons Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for "Fill the Arena Night."
