Louisiana IceGators News Release

Pensacola, FL - The Louisiana IceGators fought a hard battle against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Hangar tonight, but were unable to get ahead of the Pilots. The IceGators are still leading the Central Division with 76 points and a 37-15-2 record.

The Ice Pilots (30-18-6) got on the board first when Corey Neilson put a short-handed goal past Gustafson at 12:33 of the first period.

Alex Materukhin evened the score with his 19th goal of the year at the 17:05 mark. With the Gators on the man-advantage, Bobby Brown passed the puck to Rod Sarich who blasted a shot at Pilots netminder Brian Eklund. The shot rebounded out to Materukhin, who buried it in the twine.

The second Pilots goal came in the second period, on a Pensacola power play. Peter Fregoe capitalized on a rebound from Gators goaltender Derek Gustafson, and put the puck five-hole for the go-ahead goal.

The IceGators were 1-5 on the power play against the Pilots and put 32 shots on Brian Eklund. The Pilots also kept Gustafson busy at the other end of the ice, putting 35 shots on the Gators netminder, including 15 in the third frame.

The IceGators travel back to the Frozen Swamp for a face-off against the Texas Wildcatters tomorrow, Sunday, February 29 at 4:05 p.m. SpongeBob SquarePants will be on hand to catch the action at the Cajundome. All kids tickets are $5 for any seat in the building for Sunday's game.

It is also Guaranteed Win Night. If the IceGators beat the Wildcatters on Sunday, every fan in the building can redeem their ticket from Sunday's game at the Cajundome box office for a free ticket to the game on Wednesday, March 3 at 7:05 p.m., also against the Texas Wildcatters.
