Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads won its second straight over the Alaska Aces, 7-4, before a regular season record crowd of 5,431 at the Bank of America Centre Saturday night. The victory gives Idaho a 5-4-1 record against Alaska this season, and the Steelheads took five of a possible six points from the Aces in the three game series.
Five Steelheads scored multiple points, led by Scott Burt's two goals and an assist, David Bararuk's goal and two helpers, and Chris Slater's three assists. Former Steelhead Wes Dorey recorded a hat trick for the Aces. Idaho goaltender Blair Allison improves his record to 18-7-6, stopping 31 of 35 shots on the night.
Alaska struck first with a goal by Dorey. The unassisted, even-strength tally came from a shot that deflected off Allison's stick at 8:41. Idaho answered back when Andrei Vasilyev attempted wraparound shot was saved by Aces goalie Dan Murphy, but Dylan Gyori knocked in the rebound at 16:10. The goal was Gyori's 10th in a Steelheads sweater this year.
Alaska began the second period with a man-advantage, and Dorey scored his second of the night just as the penalty ended. Scott Burt then scored to even things up again. Burt brought the puck around the back of the net, fought for it in the corner, gained control and skated in on Murphy, beating him with a wrister. Idaho took a two-goal lead by scoring two goals just nine seconds apart. First, David Bararuk picked up a rebound off a Jeff Bateman shot, deked out Murphy and reversed behind the net to get the puck under Murphy's pads. Before the fans had a chance to sit down, Brett Draney's shot from the right circle caught Murphy by surprise and gave Idaho a 4-2 lead.
Wes Dorey notched his third of the game at 2:16 of the third period, getting the puck under Allison's pad. Then, Mike Victor scored on a rebound to tie the game at 4. Idaho regained the lead for good when Burt scored his second of the night at 5:22. Idaho increased its lead by two again on a nice two-on-one break as Bararuk fed Draney, who one-timed it from the right circle for his second of the night, 10th of the season. Ben Keup scored to wrap up the scoring with a shot from the goal line that deflected off Murphy's glove.
