Bakersfield Condors News Release
Fresno, Calif. â Mike Brusseau stopped 38 shots as the Fresno Falcons upended the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 in front of 5,123 fans at the Save Mart Center on Friday night.
The Condors took the lead with Johan Astrom's team-leading 22nd of the season at 6:12 of the opening frame. From there, the offense seemed to come in bulk. Both teams pounded the opposition's net with shots, and Shane Bendera was finally beaten by the Falcons at the 14:13 mark of the first. Neil Wilkenson's blast off a faceoff in the Condors zone lit the lamp for the 1-1 score. The Falcons led in shots 16-14 in the first.
The Condors took the shot lead in the game around the midway point, and enjoyed a run of 10 straight shots during one stretch. Fresno, however, took the lead in the game with just 1:40 remaining in the period. Kris Porter ripped home his 12th of the season when he came in on a 2-on-1 and finished the play himself. Tempers flared at the end of the frame, and rookie Jon Mirasty extended his league-high fighting major mark with his second scrap of the game, battling Jordan Landry. The shots were 29-25 through 40 minutes.
Bakersfield added 10 shots on goal in the third period, but couldn't get anything more past Mike Brusseau. The Condors had an excellent chance to get the equalizer with a four-minute power play late in the game, but Fresno shut them down. Despite a 39-29 shot advantage in the game, the Condors suffered the 2-1 loss. They did, however, win the season series against Fresno with a 7-3 record.
The Condors return to Centennial Garden for two games this weekend. Saturday night against the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:00pm, the ZOOperstars will return, sponsored by Bright House Networks, KBID 1350 and Subway. Sunday's game, a 2:00pm start against the South Carolina Stingrays, the Condors will wear special Leap Year jerseys to be auctioned off after the game, sponsored by KLLY 95.3 and O'Leary's Office Products. All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff with the "Voice of the Condors", Kevin Bartl.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
