Ice Dogs lose home opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (0-4-0) dropped their fourth straight game Friday night, in their home opener versus the Fresno Falcons (3-0-0). It was the first time in eight years the Ice Dogs have lost their home opener and the first time in team history the team has begun 0-4.

Luke Curtain scored the first of his four goals on the evening at 10:26 of the first period to give Fresno a 1-0 lead. Just 37 second later, Ash Goldie tied the score with an unassisted goal. With a two man advantage late in the first, Shawn Mather gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

Luke Curtain scored his second goal of the game 3 minutes into the second period to make it 3-1 before Christian Larrivee scored a shorthanded goal to bring the score to within one.

Luke Curtain completed his hat trick and added one more in the third, giving Fresno a 5-2 win and spoiling the Ice Dogs home opener. Greg Hewitt had 28 saves in goal despite the loss, while Brett Jaeger earned the win with 24 saves. The Ice Dogs were 0-6 on the power play while the Falcons went 2-5.

The Ice Dogs play tomorrow night when they welcome the expansion Stockton Thunder in the first ever game between the two teams.
