Bakersfield Condors News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - Scott Basiuk scored his first goal of the season as the Bakersfield Condors outshot the Alaska Aces, but three first-period goals by Alaska proved to be the difference as the Condors dropped a 3-1 decision for their first loss of the year.
Alex Leavitt opened up scoring for the Aces midway through the first as he took a pass on the power-play from Matt Shasby and fired a shot through Davis Parley's right side. An assist was also given to Mike Scott as Alaska took the 1-0 lead. The Aces made it 2-0 when Zack Fitzgerald forced a loose puck away from Parley behind the net, and Mike Lee tapped it into the open net at 12:20 of the first. Alaska capped the period with a Vladimir Novak goal, batted in on his third rebound low on Parley's left side. Konstantine Zakharov and Justin Maiser assisted as the Aces ended the first period with a 3- 0 lead.
The Condors, trailing by three, took advantage of a Peter Metcalf double minor for hookin let in the second period. Defenseman Scott Basiuk, searching for a passing lane along the blue line, threw the puck toward the net and put it past netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu to cut Alaska's lead to 3-1.
The Condors would control play in the third, outshooting Alaska 13-5, but the first period deficit would prove too steep a deficit.
Chris Beckford-Tseu earned the win for the Aces, making 29 saves on 30 shots. Davis Parley, in his second start of the season, made 26 saves on 29 shots faced in the loss in front of 5,069 fans at the Sullivan Arena.
The Condors and Aces meet again tomorrow night in the second game of a three-game series in Alaska. The game can be heard locally on KGEO Hot Talk AM 1230 beginning with the Condors Countdown at 8pm Pacific time. The game can also be viewed online through the team website, www.bakersfieldcondors.com.
The next home game for the Condors takes place Friday, November 4th when they host the San Diego Gulls. All fans in attendance will receive a free team poster courtesy of the WB-12 and McMillin Homes.
