Ice Dogs Fall To Condors 3-2 In Shootout

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (9-7-2) extended their winless streak to five games Friday night, losing to the Bakersfield Condors (12-1-2) in a shootout before 2,097 at the Long Beach Arena.

The Ice Dogs opened the scoring exactly eight minutes into the second period, when Evan Cheverie scored his 5th goal of the season, with assists by Christian Larrivee and Nathan Martz. Exactly 30 seconds later, Joe Cardarelli scored his 6th of the season on an unassisted breakaway. The Ice Dogs would hold the 2-0 lead until Guy Dupuis of the Condors cut the lead in half with a power play goal late in the period.

The score remained 2-1 Ice Dogs late into the third period. Bakersfield pulled their goaltender for the extra skater and with less than 13 seconds to go Dennis Shiryaev scored to tie the game at 2-2 and send it into overtime. The five minute overtime remained scoreless, sending the game into a shootout. The shootout went seven rounds before Todd Alexander of the Condors netted the game winner.

Olivier Michaud started his fifth consecutive game in place of the injured Chris Madden. He made 35 saves and stopped four of seven attempts in the shootout. Yutaka Fukufuji made 27 saves for Bakersfield. The Ice Dogs were 0-3 on the power play while the Condors went 1-6.
