'Blades Run Winning Streak to Four Straight with 5-1 Win

FLORENCE, SC – The Florida Everblades (10-9-0) won their fourth straight game with a 5-1 win over the Pee Dee Pride (12-5-2) on Saturday night at the Florence Civic Center. The Everblades used a hat trick by Brent McDonald and 34 saves by goaltender Rob Zepp to hand the Pride their first regulation loss on home ice this season.

The Everblades opened the scoring just 3:09 into the contest on the first of three goals by McDonald when he fired a wrist shot past the glove of Pee Dee goaltender Nick Boucher. McDonald collected his second goal of the night 1:22 into the second period by jamming home a shot for the 2-0 lead. The ‘Blades then picked up a pair of goals by David Lundbohm at 9:56 and 13:43 of the second period to open a 4-0 Florida advantage heading into the third period.

The final 20 minutes began with the Pride changing goalies to Randy Hevey who made his first appearance of the year for Pee Dee. McDonald collected the third hat trick of the season for Florida at 16:34 of the final period by firing a shot past Hevey from the slot giving the ‘Blades the 5-0 lead. The Pride broke the shutout bid by Zepp with 1:58 remaining in the game with a power play goal the deflected off Florida defenseman Chris Lee's skate and passed Zepp to make it a 5-1 contest.

Zepp earned the win in net for the ‘Blades by turning away 34 of 35 Pee Dee shots, bringing his record to 4-5-0. Boucher suffered the loss for Pee Dee allowing four goals on 19 Florida shots over the first two periods, which brought his record to 7-3-2. Hevey finished off the game making 10 saves in the third period. Florida finished the night 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Pride finished 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
