Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

6'00", 186 lb. Victoria native David Neale is the newest addition to the Victoria Salmon Kings roster. The third year pro has played the previous two seasons for the San Diego Gulls, where he was a teammate of Salmon Kings forward Rob Voltera.

Neale played junior hockey for the hometown Salsa before heading to the University of Denver where he played four seasons. Neale, a center, played 72 games in the 2003-2004 season with the Gulls recording 9 goals, 15 assists for 24 points. At the conclusion of the season Neale returned to Victoria to further his education.

During the 1999-2000 season at the University of Denver, Neale received the all-WCHA academic honours for the first time as a sophomore and became an important member of the teams penalty-killing unit. In the 1997-1998 season with the Victoria Salsa, Neale was named the team captain, and led the team in scoring during the playoffs with 2 goals, 5 assists for 7 points in 7 games.

Neale is certainly a welcome addition to the team. He is an intelligent player with skill, and has been recognized as a leader at almost every level in his athletic career. As the captain of his high school rugby team, Neale received all-city honours as both a junior and a senior.

The Salmon Kings have also signed emergency back-up goaltender Grant Sjerven. Sjerven returns to his hometown after playing 10 years of professional hockey. Sjerven has played in Britain, the IHL, CHL, and the ECHL. He is a graduate of the NCAA at St. Cloud State and has played two seasons of professional roller hockey with the San Jose Rhinos.
