Gladiators Beat Ice Pilots 7-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators used a four goal second period to roll past the Pensacola Ice Pilots 7-3 on Saturday night in Pensacola. Dwayne Hay gave the Ice Pilots a 1-0 lead 5:52 into the opening period as he was able to beat Gladiators netminder T.J. Aceti on a two on one with Tyler Beechey. Aaron Phillips also had an assist on the goal. The Gladiators tied the game up at a goal apiece on Kris Goodjohn's 6th goal of the season as he was able to jam home a loose puck in the slot past Louisiana netminder Frederic Cloutier. Chris Durno and Lane Manson added the assists on the goal at 12:28 of the opening period. The Gladiators rattled off four second period goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Peter Flache got things going for the Gladiators with a quick turn around shot at the 2:05 mark of the second period. Mike Vigilante added an assist on the goal.

The Gladiators then extended their lead to 3-1 on Rick Emmett's 4th goal of the season, a slap shot from the right point. Brad Schell added an assist on the goal at 3:09 of the second period. Ryan Van Buskirk's first goal of the season extended the Gladiators lead to 4-1 on a snapshot from the right wing side. Schell and Vigilante each added their second assists of the evening at 5:05 of the second period on the power play. The Gladiators took the 5-1 lead to the locker room as Cam Brown slapped a quick turn around snap shot past Cloutier at 18:32 of the second period. Flache and Mike Stathopoulos added the assists on the goal for the Gladiators. Mike Stathopoulos picked up his first goal of the season as he beat Cloutier on a breakaway. Cam Brown added an assist on the goal at 4:04 of the third period. Pensacola added two more late in the third period, both by Cam Keith. His first came at 13:08 of the period, the second came at 18:50 of the third period on a power play with Cloutier pulled in favor of an extra attacker. With Cloutier still pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Brett Engelardt extended his consecutive goal scoring streak to five games with an unassisted empty net goal with just 11 seconds left in the final period. TJ Aceti made 37 saves in the win for the Gladiators who improve to 10-3-4 on the season with the win.
