Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Ice Dogs gave up two third-period goals, including an empty-net goal, in a 3-1 loss to the San Diego Gulls Wednesday night in a West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) game.

In their third game of a five-game home-stand, the Ice Dogs looked like they were heading into a shootout until San Diego's Mark Pederson scored with 2:27 remaining in regulation. Sylvain Deschatelets added an empty-net goal at 19:55 for the 3-1 final, and handing the Ice Dogs their sixth defeat in their last seven games.

Long Beach (13-19-2) was out shot 16-4 in the first period, but Mike Buzak (4-11-2) stopped all shots to keep the game scoreless going into the second period of play. The Gulls (22-12-1) wound up with 39 shots on goal, compared to the Ice Dogs' 19.

Sandro Sbrocca fed David Neale for a point-blank shot, beating Buzak at 6:08 in the second period for the game's first score.

During a scrum in front of the net, Ice Dogs' Tyler Willis shot a no-look backhanded shot that beat Cris Classen (2-0-0) at 3:37 in the third period to tie the game at 1-1.

The Ice Dogs will conclude their home-stand when they host the Bakersfield Condors for a two-game series beginning Friday night.

Notes: The Ice Dogs went 0-5 on the power-play, to bring the slump to 0-66 in the last 15 games. Long Beach is 2-11-2 during that stretch.
