GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League will attempt to set a new world record for most people doing the YMCA Dance on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the BI-LO Center. The Grrrowl host the Columbia Inferno that night at 7:35 PM.

The record, as listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, is 13,588 fans and was established by the Omaha Golden Spikes "AAA" Baseball Team on July 4, 2001 at Rosenblatt Stadium – which is also home of the College World Series.

"This is a great opportunity to put South Carolina in the world record book", said ScheerSports Chairman and CEO CARL SCHEER. "It's not everyday you can attempt something of this magnitude, that's officially acknowledged and recognized world-wide by the Guinness Book. It's going to take a strong effort between now and mid-February to reach the numbers we need to break the record, but I'm hoping everyone will want to be a part of this accomplishment."

YMCA of Greenville President GARY SCHLANSKER was present at the news conference and says, "We are very excited to participate in this event. Teaming up with the Grrrowl to set a new record for people dancing to the YMCA makes a lot of sense, and this is an effort near and dear to our organization." Over 60,000 people visited the four local family branches of the YMCA last year alone. The YMCA will work in a promotional role to help raise awareness for this record-setting attempt.

Wednesday's press conference started with a video clip of fans dancing to the YMCA and Grrrowl mascot, Grrruff, participating on the concourse at the BI-LO Center.

Group tickets are available for this game, and all remaining Grrrowl home games, by calling (864) 467-GRRR. Individual game tickets are also on sale at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets. Log on to www.grrrowl.com for more information.
