Ice Dogs Again Dropped By Steelheads

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (35-25-9) fell to the Idaho Steelheads (41-21-7) Friday night for the second consecutive game. Bakersfield also won tonight, trimming the Ice Dogs' hold of second place to just one point.

Like the game before, the Ice Dogs jumped out to the early lead just 3:27 into the game. Cory Urquhart scored with assists to Lucas Lawson and Derick Martin. Then at 10:21, the Steelheads tied it up with a goal by D'Arcy McConvey on the power play from Marty Flichel and Tyler Kindle.

At 11:36 of the second period, McConvey scored his second of the game from Dan Hacker and Jarad Bourassa to give Idaho a 2-1 lead. It became a 3-1 game when Greg Rallo scored on the power play from Andrew Contois and Jeremy Mylymok.

At 3:03 of the third, McConvey completed his hat trick on the power play from Tyler Kindle and David Bararuk. Then at 7:14, Idaho took a commanding 5-1 lead from Matt Reid and Jarad Bourassa. The game would finish with that same score as the Ice Dogs were defeated.

Olivier Michaud started the game but was pulled after giving up the fifth goal. He made 18 saves in the loss. Greg Hewitt made two saves over the final 12:46. Steve Silverthorn earned the win for Idaho with 25 saves. The Ice Dogs were held scoreless on the power play, going 0-6, while the Steelheads went 3-5.
