Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Phoenix Roadrunners 3-1 thanks to two second-period power play goals and a 33-save effort by goaltender Ryan Munce.

Following a scoreless first period, Joel Irving connected for the game's first goal on a Condors power play. Irving one-timed a pass from Kevin Truelson on the right wing and deposited the puck past Phoenix goaltender Ryan Cyr. Scott Balan assisted as the Condors took a 1-0 lead 13:08 into the third period.

Three minutes later on a separate power play, Truelson fired the puck onto the net from the near point. Cyr made the initial save, but Dave Bonk picked up on the rebound and flipped a shot past Cyr to double the Bakersfield lead to 2-0 late in the second period.

Phoenix hit the scoreboard midway through the third period when Brad Woods put a wrist shot toward Bakersfield netminder Ryan Munce, who made the pad save. Justin Quenneville poked the rebound to Mike Ouellet, who dug the puck past Munce to cut the Bakersfield lead to 2-1.

The Condors would regain their two goal lead as Steve Howard led the puck to Kevin St. Jacques behind the Phoenix net. St. Jacques centered a pass to Brad Mehalko for the one-timer and putting the score to its final of 3-1.

Ryan Munce earned the victory with 33 saves on 34 Roadrunner shots. Ryan Cyr was credited with the loss despite making 29 stops on 32 Bakersfield attempts.

Other notes: Dave Bonk is carrying a Condors season-high five-game goal streak. With his assist on Brad Mehalko's goal, Kevin St. Jacques recorded career point 998, just two shy of his 1,000th.

For the record: The Condors improve to 37-25-6 for 80 points. Bakersfield trails Long Beach by a single point for 2nd place in the Pacific Division following the Ice Dogs' 5-4 overtime victory over the Stockton Thunder. Bakersfield has two games in hand over Long Beach with four games remaining in the regular season.
